As the seasons begin to change, so does the music in my rotation. September saw several exciting releases from old favourites, and who knows, maybe new favourites for you too!
Appalachia - glaive

It's fascinating to watch an artist like glaive evolve from hyperpop's heyday into diverse projects while maintaining his signature sound, especially at only 20 years old. While not all of glaive's work resonates with me personally, he consistently brings a fresh sound that showcases his talents over a range of tracks. I have always loved his use of different samples, evident throughout my favourite songs of his, and his new album, Y’all, really highlights both his storytelling abilities and willingness to experiment.
Air Maxes (KETTAMA MIX) - KETTAMA, Shady Nasty & Fred again..

I find myself appreciating good storytelling in music more by the day. KETTAMA’s version of Air Maxes gives an upbeat and catchy vibe to the original track, but keeps the melancholic feeling lingering in the background.
After seeing KETTAMA at Glitch Festival, something I'll never forget, his music piqued my interest even more. I look forward to seeing what he gets up to in the future, especially after the release of his debut album Archangel (which is worth a listen).
Back 2 Back - Skepta & Fred again..

Fred.. again.. literally. His second appearance in my favourites this month, but his latest project with Skepta is too good not to mention. The two, already great on their own, were bound to create something great together.
Back 2 Back is a perfect opener to the masterpiece that is Skepta.. Fred. Every song blends into the next like perfection, and there's a beautiful element of cohesion yet variety at the same time. They knew how powerful a collaboration would be and didn't disappoint.
That’s Not Me - Skepta feat. JME

I’m fighting against my want to be honest versus wanting variety, but honesty always wins, so Skepta gets another mention. He’s a pioneer in grime and his influence remains so vital in the shaping of the UK rap scene.
Skepta brings everything to the table: sharp and witty lyricism, flow, and beats. That’s Not Me holds the title as one of his breakthrough tracks for good reason.
Dead Horses - Astris

Venturing into solo work, sry4.wav's Astris dropped Dead Horses, created entirely by himself from production to lyrics and vocals, where his distinct style really shines through all the elements.
A hypnotising instrumental accompanied by introspective vocals and gritty production perfectly showcases Astris’s individuality and his growing presence beyond the collective, and further into the local scene.
