June Monthly Picks

As the month of June comes to an end and we enter into the blistering heat of July, we get to look back onto another great month of music. I got to experience the amazing MEO Kalorama festival in Lisbon, Portugal, where I saw some incredible artists, some I had been eager to see prior to the festival, and some which I had the blessing to hear for the first time.
This months selections include both old and new releases, and I hope you find something in here for you.
Striptease - FKA twigs

I knew of FKA twigs for quite a while before seeing her live performance at MEO Kalorama festival, but after that, I was completely enamoured, particularly with her latest album Eusexua.
I honestly could not pick a song from this album that would perfectly reflect how great it truly is. With her avant-garde artistry and angelic vocals, Striptease is an almost intoxicating experiment between genres, mixing electronic and R&B with ethereal production.
stick around- Saam Sultan

Saam Sultan without a doubt is the next big voice in underground music. At only 19, he's established a unique and personal sound, garnering a dedicated audience through promoting his music online. With relatable lyricism and beautifully crafted beats, there's something magnetic about his discography that doesn't disappoint.
His work feels vibrant, and vulnerable,
bringing a refreshing, creative take to the global rap scene.
slow release - sry4.wav

slow release marks a subtle departure from sry4.wav's usual sound, but that's far from negative. This track is written and produced entirely by collective member Astris, including the vocals. Vulnerable lyricism mixed with haunting, whimsical instrumentals are something that sry4.wav do best and slow release is no exception.
Another great addition to the Maltese rap sphere by sry4.wav. I've been really enjoying hearing a different side of them and I look forward to see new ventures as Astris starts to lean into solo work.
GET HIGHER - SOPHIE

This song has been around for a while, but finally, my favourite track by the late Sophie Xeon has made its long-awaited arrival on streaming platforms through the re-release of her debut album PRODUCT, for its 10 year anniversary.
A pioneer of hyperpop and a true visionary in electronic music, SOPHIE’s influence is immeasurable. The genre simply wouldn’t be where it is today without her work, and her legacy will live on forever through music.
Expression On Your Face - Mechatok, Ecco2k and Bladee

Mechatok can be a hit or miss for many, but I had good expectations after hearing some clips from live performances prior to the songs release.
It's been a great song in my rotation for my walk to work in the morning when I'm desperately trying to get my energy up, and I love a good synth melody.
As one of 3 singles released from Mechatoks upcoming album Wide Awake, I'm curious to hear what the rest of the tracks are like.
